One thing I've noticed about my home business is that I rarely meet people who just happen to walk into my house. Business lead prospecting requires you to be proactive. If I want new business, I must leave my nice cosy home and go out and meet people. (unless I'm marketing on the Internet) If you are selling a food product or even some kind of wellness product, you might want to consider setting up a stall at your local farmers market where people care about nutrition. If you're selling some electronic gadget or some other non food item or service, perhaps a reputable "flea" market would be better. Business lead prospecting doesn't require you to go blow your brains out with some trade shows and home shows were the rent can be very high. If you've done the smaller venues, and got a real good fix on your target market, the expensive trade shows maybe ok in the future, but not at first.

About 15 years ago, I made and sold homemade sausages at 4 different farmers market close to where I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. I went and on the first day sold over a $1,000 worth of product from all new customers who had no idea how good these sausages really were. Other markets in smaller towns in the are only grossed about $150 to $200. So location is really important for business lead prospecting. So if it was important for Sam, it's important for you.

If you've got a really nice expensive looking car already, you might want to put a promotion for your company or product on vinyl letters on the back window or someplace on the car where you can read it easily. I know some people have had success with this method. It depends on the car, the signage and the person driving the car. Don't be buying an expensive car just to do business lead prospecting. I have 3 trucks with both the Bread Roots name on them and signs for a home business opportunity on the back and after 1 year can say, I should have kept my money. Neither sign seems to attract any business. Keep in mind however, I am in a very small niche market with both the organic bread and the "wellness opportunity". Such signs might work much better for a mass market business.

Depending on your product or service and your product/market knowledge, you could get yourself invited to speak at the various clubs like the Rotary, Lions, Optimists, or Chamber of Commerce or your local BNI group. If it's a health product, you might try connecting with the local health oriented consumer groups, if your product addresses any of the issues they meet to discuss. If you do speak intelligently on the subject, you will attract people to you, rather than you chasing them. This method gets the numbers working for you: instead of presenting one on one you are presenting to 10, 20 100 people at a time. You will be the local expert. It's best if you take the approach of "speaking to give" rather than "speaking" to get at these functions. In my opinion, it shouldn't be a direct sales pitch. I always go for the "soft sell" rather than the "must sell or hard sell" approach.

Lead generation is one of the major reasons why companies have websites. The hope is that their potential new prospects will find them. With literally billions of websites that's becoming increasingly harder unless you know the rules of how to play the game. The rules are elusive and subject to change. Besides these two very good reasons to blog, you should over time develop a readership of people interested in your product or service. Consequently, you will develop a relationship with these customers over time based on your blog. These readers will contact you by phone or via the blog and become prime new customers for your business. Often people will read a your blogs over a period of time if they find them interesting, informative and entertaining. Internet marketing can be a very expensive jungle of broken promises. Health and Wellness: What is BPA and Why Should I Care?

BPA has been linked to heart disease, diabetes and liver disease. What does BPA stand for? BPA or Bisphenol A is a synthetic chemical compound found in my consumer food containers made with plastic. It includes products such as plastic bottles for water, juices, ketchup. It also includes plastic food wrap and plastic liners in food cans like cans of soup, peas, and tomato sauce to name just a few.

Who says its potentially very unhealthy? On Sept 16/08, The Journal of the American Medical Association found some preliminary evidence to suggest that BPA could be implicated in higher risks for heart disease, diabetes and liver disease. More study was definitely recommended. The FDA in the US is currently reviewing its policy and asking for an independent second opinion.

In Canada, BPA is classed as a "hormone disrupter" . As a hormone disrupter, as one might expect, it interferes with the hormone system of both humans and wildlife in a number of ways to cause problems in a number of areas such as genital tract, prostate weight, testosterone levels, breast cells. With tied in with the latest findings above, should be fair warning to avoid ingesting this chemical when possible.

Living in Canada and benefiting from a government funded health care system, I am feeling lucky and very thankful for our health care insurance system. Two years ago I had open heart surgery for blocked arteries that I did not cost me a nickel. With 2 million people a year going bankrupt in the USA just because of health care costs, I believe that I would have been one of them if I lived in the USA. It must be devastating for people at their most vulnerable time, when they are sick, they lose everything. That's appalling.

That's another aspect to employee health insurance. It appears that employers use the potential loss of health insurance as leverage against their employees. Most employees need the job just to have health insurance so they stay in jobs that maybe don't pay enough or have rotten working conditions just to keep the health insurance. Lost jobs just doesn't mean lost income, it also means lost health insurance. This is a terrible burden to constantly live with.

Regarding lost jobs. Is it a coincidence that 3 States where job losses have been almost catastrophic, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, also are very close to the Canadian border and the Province of Ontario. In case you don't know Ontario has a big auto industry. One big reason why GM likes Canada is the health insurance system here which reduces their costs of doing business substantially. I'm sure their are other big US companies which understand so they set up Canadian operations.

Based disturbing evidence prompted in part by news articles from the Associated Press, some municipalties in the USA have voluntary tested their water supply. While much of what has been discovered shows that pharmaceutical drugs and presumably illegal drugs are finding their way into the water supply, the results show that these quantities are very minute. Pharmaceutical companies are obviously taking the postion that the quantities are too low to have an impact on human health. What else could you expect them to say?

To quote form the Associated Press

" Chicago, for example, found a cholesterol medication and a nicotine derivative. Many cities found the anti-convulsant carbamazepine. Officials in one of those communities, Colorado Springs, say they detected five pharmaceuticals in all, including a tranquilizer and a hormone."

America cities which have  tested the water and found no evidence of drug contamination are Seattle, Boston and Phoenix plus five other cities. However, the vast majority of America and Canadian cities have not tested their water. Should we be concerned, after all, these are very small levels.

According to the Associated Press,

"researchers are finding evidence that even extremely diluted concentrations of pharmaceutical residues harm fish, frogs and other aquatic species in the wild and impair the workings of human cells in the laboratory."

I am not sure whether household water filters can catch these drug residues but I am sure I'll find out in the near future. Stay  tuned.

Chemical in Plastic Is Connected to Health Problems in Monkeys

Researchers at the Yale School of Medicine have linked a chemical found in everyday plastics to problems with brain function and mood disorders in monkeys -- the first time the chemical has been connected to health problems in primates.

The study is the latest in an accumulation of research that has raises concerns about bisphenol A, or BPA, a compound that gives a shatterproof quality to polycarbonate plastic and has been found to leach from plastic into food and water.

The Yale study comes as federal toxicologists yesterday reaffirmed an earlier draft report finding that there is "some concern" that bisphenol A can cause developmental problems in the brain and hormonal systems of infants and children.

"There remains considerable uncertainty whether the changes seen in the animal studies are directly applicable to humans, and whether they would result in clear adverse health effects," John R. Bucher, associate director of the National Toxicology Program, said in a statement. "But we have concluded that the possibility that BPA may affect human development cannot be dismissed."
